Reliability-based formulation of building vulnerability to debris flow impacts

چکیده
Physical building vulnerability to debris flows is defined as the potential damage degree of buildings for a given flow intensity. In this paper, physical characteristics both intensity and response are considered. Uncertainties in capacity explicitly quantified evaluate probability typical reinforced concrete subjected impact. Four states with clear failure mechanisms using multi-source information from field observations, numerical simulation, expert experience. Two series fragility models proposed based on practical impact pressure models. Several measures investigated. A better indication can be provided measure that represents specific mechanism; e.g., force (hv 2 ) force-dominated failures or overturning moment (h v moment-dominated failures, where h depth velocity, respectively. The corresponding surfaces best express damage. thresholds curves consistent those empirical curves. methodology presented paper promotes assessment physics-based modeling, leading more reliable evaluation caused by flows.

The application of numerical debris flow modelling for the generation of physical vulnerability curves
For a quantitative assessment of debris flow risk, it is essential to consider not only the hazardous process itself but also to perform an analysis of its consequences. This should include the estimation of the expected monetary losses as the product of the hazard with a given magnitude and the vulnerability of the elements exposed. A quantifiable integrated approach of both hazard and vulnera...
متن کاملLinking effects of anthropogenic debris to ecological impacts.
Accelerated contamination of habitats with debris has caused increased effort to determine ecological impacts. Strikingly, most work on organisms focuses on sublethal responses to plastic debris. This is controversial because (i) researchers have ignored medical insights about the mechanisms that link effects of debris across lower levels of biological organization to disease and mortality, and...
متن کاملTowards an empirical vulnerability function for use in debris flow risk assessment
In quantitative risk assessment, risk is expressed as a function of the hazard, the elements at risk and the vulnerability. From a natural sciences perspective, vulnerability is defined as the expected degree of loss for an element at risk as a consequence of a certain event. The resulting value is dependent on the impacting process intensity and the susceptibility of the elements at risk, and ...
متن کاملA Sub-Optimal Look-Up Table Based on Fuzzy System to Enhance the Reliability of Coriolis Mass Flow Meter
Coriolis mass flow meters are one of the most accurate tools to measure the mass flow in the industry. However, two-phase mode (gas-liquid) may cause severe operating difficulties as well as decreasing certitude in measurement. This paper presents a method based on fuzzy systems to correct the error and improve the reliability of these sensors in the presence of two-phase model fluid. Definite ...
